Course content
Structural analysis of a poetic text. Basic phenomena: rhythm, meter, rhyme, stylistic figure, tropes, graphical level of the text, morphology and syntax of the poetic text, lexical level, dynamics, problem of the plot. Analysis of selected works of basic authors: 19th century: G. Derzhavin, V. Zhukovsky, A. Pushkin, M. Lermontov, F. Tutchev, N. Nekrasov, A. Fet poets of Russian Silver Age and avant-garde 2nd half of the 20th century: A. Tvardovsky, A. Voznesensky, N. Zabolotsky, Y. Yevtushenko, J. Brodsky, Bella Akhmadulina etc. Contemporary poetry, poetic elements in contemporary pop culture

Learning outcomes
The course aims at providing students with basic principles and methods of structural analysis of poetic text, clarifying three analytical approaches, namely analysis with regard to the relation of the text to a certain cultural and historical reality, the relation of text to other texts and from the point of view of the internal organization of a poetic text. The aim of the course is to teach students to analyse any given poetic text written in Russian language, to enrich their cultural background and vocabulary of the students. Seminars are conducted in Russian.
Ability to analyse arbitrary poetic texts, relate the content of the analysed text to broader cultural and historical context, extended vocabulary including terminology.
Prerequisites
The course is designed for master's degree students. Advanced knowledge of Russian is required, as well as knowledge of historical development of Russian literature and major authors.

preparation, active participation, absence max. 2 weeks¨ presentation of the analysis of selected author's poems (2nd half of the 20th century) final seminar paper min. 3 pages final discussion
