Course content
1. Introduction - giving talks, presentations (guidelines, key points, "classical" presentation structure) 2. Topic - choice, brainstorming, mind-mapping, structuring the topic 3. Introduction 4. Structuring a talk (linking ideas, signposting) 5. Language register in presentations (spoken vs. written) 6. Using visual aids; describing graphs, trends, reading numbers. 7. Finishing off (summary, conclusion, handling questions). 8. Delivery of presentations in class. 9. Presentation in Russian - glossaries of useful phrases. 10. Topic - choice, discussion, structuring. 11. Composing the presentation in Russian, visual aids. 12. Delivery of presentations in class.

Learning outcomes
The objective of the course is to acquire the necessary presentation skills in English and Russian. Students will analyse sample presentations, create glossaries of lexical, grammatical material as well as discourse-markers, select and study their individual topics and produce their own presentations in English and Russian. Annotations of the topics will also be discussed. Both linguistic, stylistic and presentation competence will be developed.
The student will be capable of composing and delivering an effective presentation on a selected topic both in English and in Russian.
Prerequisites
Intermediate knowledge of both Russian and English (B2), reading skills, discussion abilities and research techniques in both languages.
