Course content
01. Language, language culture and extralinguistic factors of linguistic discourse. 02. Present-day political discourse. Religion and religious aspects of modern Russian discourse. 03. Language and power. 04. Mass media and media policy in Russia, the specific features of journalist's profession in Russia. 05. The language of present-day mass media and advertisement. 06. Religion and religious aspects of modern Russian discourse. 07. Ethnic agenda in contemporary Russia. 08. Modern Science. 09. Books, libraries. 10. Presentaion of books.

Learning activities and teaching methods

Learning outcomes
The aim of this course is to enhance the communicative skills by understanding the main points of texts with increased difficulty, excerpting the main information from TV or radio news, discussing more advanced topics, participating in discussion and using logical argumentation, writing essays on selected topics, writing a review, an annotation, a summary. The following topics are to be covered: books and bookshops, translators, science, discoveries and inventions, mass media, the risky profession of journalists, especially in Russia.
Students will improve their language skills and gain new information about the present-day Russian society.
Prerequisites
We expect a practical knowledge of Russian, at least B2 level of the European Framework of Reference for Languages, a knowledge of the Russian system of grammar on an advanced level as well as knowledge of Russian culture and realia.

Oral exam, Essay, Student performance
