Course content
Philosophical background of romanticism. The basic features of romantic literature. German romanticism. English romanticism. Russian romanticism. Polish romanticism. French romanticism. Romanticism in visual arts. Romanticism in music. The elements of romanticism in 20th century.

Learning outcomes
Romanticism as a stream in art and philosophy as well as lifestyle of the European culture of the end of the 18th and the beginning of the 19th centuries. Romanticism as a revolt of individuality against the existing establishment, Promethean myth. Romanticism as an approach to art and life in 20th century. This cours is focused on the basic features of the German, Russian, English, French and Czech romanticism in literature and its application in 20th century. The lectures are held by invited specialists for the specific fields (literature, history, visual art, music.)
The insight into the literary, philosophical and historical context of the romantic movement and into the specific features of romanticism in different countries. Understanding the elements of romanticism in the 20th century.
Prerequisites
Knowledge of literary theory, ability to read literary texts, knowledge of Russian literature of the 19th and 20th centuries.
