Czech linguistics - Paleoslavistics Themes of Paleoslavistic studies 1. Old Church Slavonic language and its place in the classification of Slavic languages. 2. Old Church Slavonic writings until the end of the 11th century and its basic linguistic features. 3. Influence of Greek language on Old Church Slavonic language. 4. Influence of Latin and Old High German on Old Church Slavonic. 5. Morphology and syntax of Old Church Slavonic in comparison with other Slavic languages (choice according to Ph. D. candidate). 6. Word stock of Old Church Slavonic, its function-style and territorial classification. 7. Old Church Slavonic lexicography. 8. Czech writings in Church Slavonic language, reminders of Czech origin, Emmaus period of Old Church Slavonic language. 9. Canon of Old Church Slavonic reminders. 10. Literary reminders from Great Moravia. 11. Glagolitsa and Cyrillic script ? origin, extension, paleographic features, Old Church Slavonic language written in Latin script. 12. Features of letters and literary work of selected writings in Church Slavonic language (free choice expect of Czech and Great Moravian). 13. The Bible translation by Cyril and Methodius and the issues of its reconstruction. 14. So called New Church Slavonic language ? church language of Orthodox Church, Eastern Catholic Churches, Roman Catholic Church, features of writings. 15. Personalities of Czech and worldwide Paleoslavonic studies, the most eminent publications and journals.

Learning outcomes

Czech linguistics - Paleoslavistics This course will provide an overview of development of Paleoslavistic studies and its disciplines, research in Paleoslavistics, important representatives, synthetical works and monographs, contribution of Czech Paleoslavistics to the European Slavonic studies.
Knowledge of each discipline according to the time-schedule of doctoral study programme.
