Course content
1. Introduction to translatology, definition of terminology 2. Understanding translation from antiquity to the 19th century 3. Translation as a process, functional equivalence, general invariant of translation, translation units 4. Oral translation - interpreting 5. Types of translation (Roman Jakobson) 6. Translation transformations, basic procedures of the translator 7. Translation process, stages of the translator's work (Jiří Levý) 8. Path to today's translation theory, diachronous view 9. On interdisciplinarity of translation, language industry, new requirements for translators, multispecialisation 10. Translation ethics and the translator's moral code - what and how to (not) translate?

Learning activities and teaching methods
Lecture
Learning outcomes
The course acquaints students with the contemporary translation theories and with the basic translation approaches.
The abililty to analyze a text, understand its specifics and adequately transfer its content from the original language to the target language and vice versa.
Prerequisites
Autonomous lecture of the translational literature, knowledge of the linguistic terminology.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written exam

80% participation in lectures and seminars, autonomous lecture of the translational literature, passing the graduation test
