Course content

Learning outcomes
This course focuses on the basics of simultaneous interpreting of not very difficult texts, speeches and real topical recordings into Czech. Principles of simultaneous interpreting. Basic habits for simultaneous interpreting (division of attention, concurrency of perception and production, time lag, reaction speed, economy technique, anticipation and backward correction, language automation). The lessons will be conducted in group: individual students will gradually train the basic interpreting techniques in the form of chuchotage or simultaneous translation for other students in the role of listeners. Substantial emphasis will be placed on short-term memory, coping of stress and concentration.
In relation to the basic specialised language skills and competences already learned, the student will attain further specialised skills and competences from the field. The student knows the basic theoretical principles of interpretation (basic terminology in Czech and Polish), the basic interpreting techniques. Consolidation of skills of sight interpretation, interpreting with text, and consecutive interpreting with text will be practically verified. Other skills: basic techniques of interpretation in the form of chuchotage and simultaneous translation. Short-term memory training, coping with stress and concentration.
Prerequisites
Ability to work with specialized texts in Polish and in Czech. Very good knowledge of Polish and Czech.

Active participation, public interpreting on a predetermined topic and discussion of translation strategies and personal experience.
