Course content

Learning outcomes
This course is aimed at students who already have the necessary linguistic skills and experience. The semestral course focuses on familiarization with the basics of specialized Polish language interpretation. In this course, students will learn the basics of interpretation (escort and consecutive in particular). The lessons will be conducted in groups: sight interpreting, interpreting with text, consecutive interpreting, consecutive interpreting with text. The theory will be concerned mainly with the analysis of the interpretation process: understanding, de-verbalization and rewording in the target language. One of the topics covered is the interpretation and translation to/from languages that are genetically related.
In relation to the basic specialised language skills and competences, the student will learn further specialised knowledge and competences, skills and abilities from the field of interpretation; basic principles of interpreting (basic terminology in Czech and Polish), basic methods of interpretation: sight interpretation, interpretation with text, consecutive interpretation, and consecutive interpretation with text, which will be practically verified.
Prerequisites
Ability to work with specialized texts in Polish and in Czech. Very good knowledge of Polish and Czech.

Assessment methods and criteria
unspecified
Active participation, public interpreting of a predetermined topic, discussion of translation strategies and onw experience. The credit test will be oral.
