Course content
1. Translation of an artistic text: introduction, termminology, revision 2. Artistic translation: introduction 3. Czech-Polish translation tradition, the work of reputable past and present translators 4. Translator's rights and obligations towards the publisher and the author 5. Translator as a creator and artist 6. Literary forms and genres and the difficulties of their translation 7. Literary journalism: literary coverage and its translation 8. Specific genre and its translation 9. Graphical formal aspects of translation; translator's competences 10. Studen't own attempt to translate, discussion of particular issues 11. Learning outcomes
This course is for students with a very good language level. The seminar focuses on artistic (literary) translation and its specificities. Creative aspects of this type of translation are taken into account. During the lessons students will analyse in group artistic translationst and will deal with subtopics such as the translator's rights and obligations towards the publisher and the author, the specificities of literary forms and genres, and the Czech-Polish translation tradition. After that, the student's own attempt to translate a literary (artistic) text follows. This course prepares the students to work as a translator.
In relation to the basic specialised language skills and competences, the student will attain further specialised competences, skills and abilities from the field of translation strategies. Consolidation of skills: a. analysis of translation strategies, b. student's own translation of an artistic text.
Prerequisites
Ability to work with artistic texts in Polish and in Czech. Very good knowledge of Polish and Czech.

Assessment methods and criteria
Student performance

- Active participation in the lesson with a maximum of 2 absences per semestre - elaboration of the student's own translation (at least 5 pages with a commentary on the translation)
