Course content
1. Three syntactic levels - sentence structure obligatory, potentional and facultative. 2. Basic sentence structures, sentence models. 3. Traditional and formal syntax: Polish concepts. 4. Issue of supplement. 5. Surface and deep structure, transformation and its most important types. 6. Simple sentence and coumpound sentence, syntactic relations within a compound sentence and how to express them. 7. Parataxis and hypotaxis. 8. Modality, modal meaning. 9. Communicative function of utterance. 10. Functional Sentence Perspective (FSP), device of FSP, some special devices of FSP. 11. Types of tematic sequence. 12. Revison. 13. Pre-exam credit test, exam preparation.

Learning outcomes
This course will cover the complex issue of Polish sentences from the comparative and global point of view. Traditional and untraditional syntax of Polish linguistic school. Formal analyses of all syntactic configurations.
The students will acquire competences as stated in the syllabus.
Prerequisites
Reading of academic papers and practical study texts in Polish.

Assessment methods and criteria
Student performance

Regular and active attendance - 80%, two absences are permitted; fulfilment of all partial assessment tasks; mid-semester test; individual study of Polish texts; written exam.
