Ideological, artistic and literary current "Romantism" is in the Polish culture considered to be the most important period of national cultural hitory. In Europe, it lasted from the French Revolution until the Spring of Nations in 1848. The Polish boundary marks of Romantism are the years 1863 and 1864. Together with the great pre-romantic German, English, French and Russian writers of that era, there are also four Poles: Adam Mickiewicz, Juliusz Słowacki, Zygmunt Krasiński and the post-romantic writer Cyprian Kamil Norwid.
