Unit 1: Contacts at work - English on the phone, listening. Articles. Unit 1: Developing contacts - speaking, dialogues, reading, listening. Articles. Unit 1: Outside office hours - dialogues on the phone, messages, requests, commands. Unit 2: Your Company - desription of company (vocabulary, phrases). Unit 2: Your Company - reading, listening, speaking. Giving directions. Unit 2: Company Profile, Competition, vocabulary, exercises, reading, discussion. Revision - Unit 2, progress check, translation, reading, listening. Unit 3: Personal Background - Personnel. Present Perfect Tense. Unit 3: Conditions at Work, Social Benefits, Satisfaction. Present Perfect Tense vs. Past Perfect Tense. Unit 3: Job Descriptions - vocabulary, listening, reading.

Learning outcomes
|
This practical course is focused on the use of English in the every day professional communication in the business sphere (facts about a company, employment, trends, finance). Students shall get familiar with the basic knowledge of business correspondence in English (typical phrases, structure, basic genres). We expect the students to have an advanced knowledge of English as we shall discuss only selected grammatical problems (e.g. the passive voice, phrasal verbs, derivation).
After completing this course students will be able to express themselves adequately in written business communication in the basic genres, they will be able to communicate both actively and passively (listening, reading) about the topics of corporation, profession or tendencies in economy.

Prerequisites
|
Knowledge of English language corresponding to at least B1 level of the European Framework of Reference for Languages, both written and oral (i.e. the level reached after completing the courses KSR/ANG1-4).

Written exam, Student performance
Active participation, max. 2 absences Passing the test during the term (vocabulary, phrases, translation) Oral presentation of a given topic in English Passing the credit test
