Course content
|
This course in the practical language orients itself to the systemic functional mastery of both spoken and written Polish with a view to Polish background information. Lexical and Grammatical Topics: 1. The Polish and Czech alphabets. Polish sounds and letters. Stress in the Polish language. 2. Identical and similar expressions, tricky words, and the common Slavic language. 3. Greetings, forms of address, and farewells. Common phrases. 4. Names of countries, nationals, and nationalities. 5. Basic personal information. Personal pronouns. Possessive pronouns. 6. Verbs in the present tense. Numbers 0-100. 7. Signs, inscriptions, city landmarks, shops, and services. Describing a route. 8. Nouns in the accusative and genitive cases. Superlatives of adjectives. Adverbs of distance. 9. Family and its members. Vocabulary related to physical and personality traits. 10. Masculine and feminine forms of job titles. 11. Past tense, sentence structures. 12. My day. Telling time, names of units of time. Adverbs of time, cardinal and ordinal numbers 100-2,000.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of this course is to build the foundations of communicational skills in the Polish language. The lessons are focussed on the gradual broadening of vocabulary and mastery of the basics of grammar. Lessons are taught according to the structure of the textbook (see "Study Materials").

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Oral exam, Written exam
Attendance at classes with a maximum of 2 absences per semester; successful completion of the credit test and oral exam.
