Course content
1. Organization - a symptom of modernity. General characteristic of the rise of the need to create modern formal organizations and organize social life of individuals. 2. Modern organization functioning. Basic principles which are necessary to build, foundation and then functioning of an organization within modernity. 3. Types of organizations and the influence of this typology on their managing. Definition of the basic principles of formal organizations management in connection with theoretical explanation of social functioning. 4. Social behaviour regulations. Definitions of basic forms of social behaviour regulation and acting within formal organization with theoretical argumentation. Systematization of social acting for formal organization functioning. 5. The theory of bureaucracy of M. Weber. Basic principles of Weber´s theory of bureaucracy as an explanation of the possible ways of functioning and maintaining formal organizations in modern societies. 6. Classical management of F. Taylor. Defining the management mechanisms for adequate personal management in organizations during mechanistic period of modern society. 7. School of human relations. Definition of the theoretical concept of the Elton Mayo´s School of human relations. 8. Changes in organization in modern society. Social change characteristics and its influence on the principles of formal organization functioning within modernity. 9. G. Simmel - formal sociology, conflict and formal organization. Principles and explanation of the principles of this sociological theory in connection to formal organizations functioning. 10. H. A. Simon - theory of limited rationality. Limits which have an influence on the decisions in the management of formal organizations in modernity. 11. Structural-functional definition of an organization. System of a formal organization explained in terms of structural principles. 12. R. K. Merton - unintended consequences and a formal organization. Explaining possible consequences of acting in formal organization management and the surrounding´s influence on the possible estimations of the consequences of acting within organizations.

Learning outcomes
The aim of this discipline is to apprize the students with basic principles of formal organization functioning in a modern society. In this course, the modernity is understood from to view of sociological division of social development. The basic principle of a modern formal organization is classified within the social context and argued by theoretical approaches of individual theorists. The reflection of the argumentation in a profit organization functioning and particularly in its members leadership.
- Student can define basic principles of the theory of organization in the frame of the development of modernity and modernization changes. - Student can describe and interpret the development stages of personal management in the time of modern society. - Student can explain basic principles of the theories which explain the foundation and functioning of social life organization in modernity. - Student knows the main characters of the theoretical concepts of formal organizations functioning in the modern society. Student can interpret individual theoretical concepts of formal organization functioning in modernity. - Student can analyse a particular organization in the present social environment and is able to argue the analysed steps and information by the theoretical concepts of profit organization functioning in the society. - Student can show the basic principles of the formal organization functioning, prosperity and development on the basis of adequately defined criteria. - Student can analyse a real organization environment. - Student is able to suggest and construct management procedures to influence employees towards the strategic goals of an organization on the basis of the previous analysis. - Student is able to think critically and to identify the failures which lead to problems in the organization functioning. - Student is in the same time competent to summarize and formulate basic failures of an organization and design a plan how to improve the situation in regard to all available consequences of the suggestion.

Assessment methods and criteria
Mark

To gain the credit students must work out an essay which is set as a correspondence task. Essay must be of adequate quality which is common for this form of an expert text. To gain the credit is a necessary condition for attending the exam. The exam has an oral test form. Student must show adequate knowledge of the discipline Theory of organization and be able to argue the claims with theoretical authorities of the discipline.
