Course content
1. Introduction of social work as a science, field of practice and study programme. 2. Social work ethics. 3. History of social work 4. Psychoanalysis 5. Social work of Mary Richmond, diagnostic school of social work. 6. Social work of Florence Hollis 7. Social work of Helen Harris Pearlman 8. Social work of Marie Krakešová 9. Behavioural approaches to social work 10. Cognitive approaches to social work. 11. Cognitive-behavioural methods in social work. 12. Reality therapy 13. Humanistic trends in social work. 14. Systemic approach in social work. 15. Integrated, eclectic and synthetic approaches in social work 16. Present social work concepts in developed countries of America and Western Europe. 17. Individual social work, its phases and process. 18. Counselling in social work 19. Group social work 20. Self-help groups 21. Social work in a community. 22. Street work as a special form of social work. 23. Social work techniques 24. Course end, evaluation.

Learning outcomes
The course introduces the students into the past and the present of social work a s a science and as a field of practical activity. The main theories and methods of social work are presented - their characteristics, contributions and criticisms, possible use under particular conditions. Then the attention is shifted to the contemporary development of social work heading toward emancipationist, anti-discriminational and anti-oppressive approaches on one hand; on the other hand it creates new procedures of work with groups and communities.

Assessment methods and criteria
Mark, Oral exam, Written exam, Seminar Work

This discipline is attested by a credit and an exam. To gain the credit it is necessary to fulfil all the correspondence tasks written in the study material, see above. Gaining the credit is a necessary condition to be allowed to take the exam. The exam has a written test form followed by an oral test.
