Course content
Psychology in social work 1. Psychology as a discipline, its aims, historical development and context, subject of interest according to the main trends of the 20th century. 2. Division of psychological disciplines, methods of psychological research, basic psychological phenomena - psyche, psychic contents, processes, states. 3. Behaviour, consciousness, unconsciousness, sleep and dreaming. 4. Cognitive abilities - perception, attention, memory, thinking, intelligence, imagination. 5. Selected types of learning - habituation, conditioning (classical, instrumental, operant), conceptual and cognitive learning, social learning. 6. Experiencing, emotions, stress. 7. Personality - division of traits, composition and dynamics of personality, motivation and division of motives. 8. Personality development, factors of development, maturation vs. learning in the context of development, socialization. 9. Temperament and personality traits. 10. Self-concept, character, ego-defense mechanisms, personality disorders. 11. Attitudes and their structure, prejudices, stereotypes, attitude changes. 12. Social perception, impression formation about other people, attributional processes. 13. Small social groups - basic divisions and features of groups, group development, group dynamics. 14. Social influences - social facilitation vs. inhibition, conformity, obedience, social roles. 15. Communication - types, divisions, contribution of the systemic approach of the Paloalto school and E. Berne's transactional analysis. 16. Social relationships - features of interpersonal behaviour, interaction, prosocial behaviour, aggression. 17. Selected social deviations: addictions - types, features of addiction, stages, conditioning (risk) factors. 18. Selected social deviations: religious extremism, sects, main features and manifestations affecting individuals. 19. Selected social deviations: violence in close relationships - syndrome of abused, neglected and abused child, domestic violence. 20. Selected social deviations: criminal activity, prison, homelessness.
