Course content
The target of the practical education is: 1. Basic orientation in the social sphere, learning the organizational, political, legislative and administrative structure of a service. 2. Orientation in the main social work methods used a workplace. 3. Learning the standard and "non-standard" clients of the service. 4. Learning about the system of social service financing. 5. Learning the advantages and disadvantages of a service, strengths and weaknesses. 6. Observing and constructively criticising of the power localization in a facility. 7. Observing and constructively criticising of the tools and procedures of empowering clients to participate on the decision processes. 8. Spotting the typical acting strategies of social workers who is the supervisor of the student's practical education. 9. Observing the climate of the team (non-)cooperation in the workplace. 10. Learning the position of the social worker in the multidisciplinary team. 11. Detailed study of a particular social case, watching its genesis and the activities of the supervising social worker. 12. Training, fulfilling and documenting selected competencies of a social worker.

Learning outcomes
The subject is taught in the form of practical training of the students in chosen workplaces of practical social work. The students spend 40 hours at a workplace each semester. It is expected that they will gain an overview of the issues the workplaces deal with, of legal norms regulating work with clients, and that they will be led to the application of knowledge and skills gained during their studies to direct work with clients of social work. The output of this course is a report of practical training of 5 standard pages and presentation of documents giving evidence of gaining competences of social worker of one standard page.
- student knows the working social net of helping organizations in the sphere of a target group; - student has learnt about the legislation connected to the social work with a target group; - student understands the structure of the organization in which he/she was educated, its values, mission, goals; - student knows the working methods with a target group of an organization in which he/she was educated; - student understands the role of a social worker and other experts in an organization in which he/she was educated; - student knows the needs of a target group and specific features of the problems which encounters the organization in which he/she was educated. - student can use appropriate social work methods and techniques when working with a target group; - student can use appropriate legislation to solve social situation of a target group; - student can develop effective communication with a client of a target group; - student has learnt about the situation and client´s needs, can assess the social situation, create individual plan of cooperation with a client and choose adequate ways of social intervention; - student can gain important information and use it for a client; - student can see the risk factors of his/her influence and set the limits of the support; - student can handle the basic documents about a client according to the standards of an organization in which he/she was educated. - student accepts the goals, values and ethical principles of social work; - student is aware of the ethical dilemmas connected with social work activities; - student regards him/herself as a tool of social work; - student can identify his/her strengths and weaknesses and use them when working with a client;

Assessment methods and criteria
Seminar Work

To get the credit a student must work out a report of the practical education on approximately six pages of a text (see above) and hand out the document from the social service saying that the student had the practical education of at least forty hours.
