Lectures: 1. Basic notions of culture: a. Determination of culture and its levels, components (values, practices). b. Evolution of culture, enculturation, influence of culture on behaviour. 2. National cultures: a. Dimension of national cultures. b. G. Hofstede and G. J. Hofstede, F. Trompenaars. 3. Organizational behaviour and culture: a. Determination of notions, relation of national and organizational culture. b. Role of organizational culture in human resources management. c. Relation to strategy and efficiency. 4. Descriptive characteristics of organizational culture: a. Attitudes to understanding of organizational culture. b. Typology of organizational culture (Harrison & Handy, Goffee & Jones, Cameron & Quinn, Denison). c. Components of organizational culture. d. Levels of organizational culture. 5. Dynamic characteristics of organizational culture: a. Resources. b. Development. 6. Significant approaches to organizational culture: a. Three levels of culture according to E. H. Schein. b. Denison´s model. c. Dimensions according to IRIC G. Hofstede and B. Waisfisz. d. A. H. Maslow and CTT model according to R. Barrett. 7. Identification of organizational culture: a. Qualitative and quantitative methodology. b. Research design. c. Hofstede model, CTT, Denison, OCAI. 8. Application of knowledge: a. Cultural risk. b. Shaping an organizational culture in various situations. c. Application in human resources management processes. Practical part 1. Theoretical analysis of selected components/levels of organizational culture. 2. Own case study, analysis and interpretation with regard to the aspect of dynamics. 3. Presentation of the case study. The course has been prepared within the Project CZ.1.07/2.2.00/28.0138 Education modularization in management and psychology at the University of Palacky in Olomouc via innovation and interconnection of economic and psychological study programmes.

Learning outcomes
|
The course familiarizes students with major notions related to culture, organizational culture as well as organizational behaviour, and prepares students for their future active roles in creating and shaping organizational culture in their jobs. Organizational culture is given a lot of attention as a significant predictor of competitiveness from descriptive and dynamic points of view. The graduates will be ready for work in specific company development situations, concerning both diagnostics and intervention, in small or big organizations.
Listener: - can define major and related notions of organizational culture. - can describe components and levels of organizational culture. - can describe the dynamic aspect of organizational culture. - can list and explain major theories of organizational culture, including diagnostic tools. - determines a suitable research design of organizational culture. - carries our research in organizational culture. - interprets findings on organizational values, habits, practices, etc. - determines suitable measures.
