Learning outcomes
The course will introduce students to the issues of religious and cultural anthropological study of performance and ritual with special attention to the devotional culture of the High and Late Christian Middle Ages.
At the end of the course, students will be able to - explain the basic theories of ritual and the most important terms and categories associated with it (definition of ritual, typology of ritual, myth and ritual, ritualization and symbolic action, transition rituals, ritual - time and space, ritual exchange, etc.), - apply these concepts to specific religious phenomena from the past and present - analyze specific religious phenomena from the past and present using methodological tools from performance theories

No addmission requirements.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral exam

- Participation in seminars (min. 70%). - Homework (reading assigned texts in Czech and English). - Active participation in group discussion. - Final colloquium (10-minute presentation on some of the discussed topics and subsequent discussion).
