Course content
Course objective, completion requirements, course requirements - continuous fulfilment of tasks; diversity of religious life in contemporary Czech society - introduction " Basics of qualitative field research, selected examples of field research tools and techniques (keeping a field diary, observation, interview) " Introduction to the selected religious group or phenomenon and introduction to research of available information " Field research - 1st phase (observation, field diary) " Information on the course and results of the first phase of the research, reflective discussion, determination of further steps (editing the topic and research questions, methodologies); methods of open coding " Field research - 2nd phase (conducting a semi-structured interview, transcription and coding) " Presentation of the coding of the interview " Preparation of the final text - partial research report " Presentation of the first version of the partial research report and discussion of the form of the final version of the partial research report

Learning outcomes
The course introduces students to empirical qualitative research, which is carried out on specific religious groups or religious phenomena. It focuses primarily on non-traditional religious groups, as part of the course objectives is to familiarize students with the diversity of religious life in contemporary Czech society. During the course, students will master the basics of creating a research design and formulating a research question and strategy. They will verify their theoretical knowledge in practice during a small field survey. The course focuses on acquiring skills for using two basic qualitative research techniques - observation and interview. They will critically evaluate and present their experiences to other students. They will acquire the skills to conduct a research interview or collect another data set (e.g. documents). Students will conduct open coding on this interview (transcription) or document. They will discuss their experiences with other students and design the specific form of their own (partial) research report together.
