In the last decades the new religious movements (NRMs) became an inherent part of today's societies. The aim of this course is to present the NRMs in their diversity and to understand and explain their occurrence from the sociological perspective. The course discusses particular NRMs (ISKCON, Apostolic Church etc.) the local social coexistence of which will be studied from a comparative perspective as it will be contextualized globally as well. In the course the contemporary theoretical approaches will be discussed. We will deal with the questions concerning the key aspects which constitute religion and NRMs in particular. Students will be offered the conceptual tools to analyse NRMs. The course design navigates students from the local environment of the NRMs in the Czech Republic to their global dimension.
