Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to discuss the topic of nationalism, especially from the perspective of historical and cultural anthropology. The course will acquaint with the basic definition of nationalism and its typologies, the processes of formation of nationalism in modern times with respect to language and culture. The course will compare the concepts of nationalism in Europe and Asia and will also focus on Czech nationalism. It will focus on the definition of nationalism and the relationship with national-state units.
The student should be able to define nationalism and its anthropological concept. He/she will know the typologies of nationalism and will be able to explain the formation of nationalism in social and historical contexts. He/she will be able to interpret the relationship of nation and state and nation and culture and will know the basic differences and similarities of nationalisms and understand Czech nationalism in its historical context.
