European culture and lifestyle are often considered as a distinctly secularized. Despite this, there has been much less attention paid to the analysis of the atheistic thinking then to the study of traditional and modern forms of religion. If studied, scholars were mostly interested in the historical and social causes of the decreased religiosity in particular countries, but much less in the study of modern nature of atheism and faithlessness. The course focuses on the "rise and 'faces of non-religion" using novel interdisciplinary approach and a new perspective. The nature of the phenomena studied will be demonstrated on the example of selected figures and their works with regard to their cultural-historical context.
