Course content
|
1. Science as a specific area of human activity and experience; 2. Science and philosophy, art; 3. The foundation if scientific thinking (statements about science); 4. Functions of science and the specifics of social science in regard of research; 5. Positivism and quantitative approaches (hypothesis conceptualisation, testing hypothesis, statistic methods etc.); 6. The issue of values in social sciences; 7. Interpretative approaches, understanding and interpreting, qualitative approaches; 8. The role of language and categorization (cognitions and science); 9. Typology and comparison; 10. Science as a "service" - doing science, scientific production and its evaluation; 11. Ethics of scientific work; 12. Scientific text, its requisites, form and aesthetics.

Learning outcomes
|
The goal is to put into scientific way of thinking about the world. At the end of the course the student will be able to: - Define, understand and explain the specificity of the scientific way of looking at reality and to distinguish it from other methods (eg plane or plane of everyday aesthetic perception of reality) - Identify the basic issues and problems of social science methodology - Apply the knowledge gained in working with specific scientific text - Assess whether certain claims they have the character of scientific assertions and conclusions - To design their own scientific text (structure and form) - Justify their own conception of a scientific approach to a particular topic. The course is designed as an introduction to the topic and is based on stimulating interest in the methodology of science, respectively methodology of social sciences.
Student can: - describe all the aspects of scientific text; - distinguish analytically the scientific outcomes from the non-scientific texts or speeches. Student can: - create a proposal of the scientific project and - work out the methodology for the chosen topic research; - identify the differences in methodology of the pure sciences and social sciences. Student is able to: - assess the expertize and trustworthiness of claims, which are presented as scientific.

Mark
To gain the credit, it is necessary to work out all the correspondence tasks. To get to the exam it is necessary to gain the credit. The exam has a written test form with following oral exam.
