Course content

Topics: - Features, specifics and dilemmas of the different stages of the adulthood phase - changes at the biological, psychological, social and spiritual levels in the different stages of adulthood - the socialisation process in adulthood, the most important socialisation factors - crisis situations in adult life (e.g. normative and developmental crises, situational crises), crisis management in adulthood - social roles of the adult; the public and private world of the adult in the different stages of adulthood - the adult as an actor in education - the adult as a labour market actor; changes in professional roles - discussions on the 'moratorium' in adulthood; the 'sandwich generation'; changes in memory, attention, intelligence during adulthood; male and female roles, gender aspects; the importance of partnership and intimacy in adult life and changes in marriage and parenthood; the importance of work in adult life

Learning outcomes
|
The aims of the course are to clarify the importance of psychological knowledge with a focus on adult psychology in the context of the functioning of educational institutions. Students will receive key information on the characteristics of adulthood as one of the stages of the life course, including the specifics and developmental challenges of each of the stages of adulthood (young adulthood, middle adulthood and older adulthood).
Knowledge and skills acquired: - Student knows the specifics of the stages of adulthood. - Student is able to recognize individual crisis situations in adult life and to react adequately to them. - Student knows the causes and consequences of moratorium in the period of adulthood and sandwich generation. - Student can argue the importance of marriage, parenting, and work in adult's life.
