Course goals (annotation): This course introduces the students to the basic concept of discourse, and about the aplication of critical discourse analysis within the study of identity, and social change. The course is divided into four parts. The first three parts include the concept of discourse, structure of discourse and its relation to the processes of social change and the concepts of identity. The last - practical part engages in critical discursive analysis and its possible applications.
Students will be able: - to describe theoretical, and methodological posibility of critical discourse analysis, - to apply critical discourse analysis within sociological research.

Prerequisites
|
The course requires very good knowledge of English, because the most of reading materials is not avaliable in Czech language. The course is intended for MA degree in sociology, and this course anticipates the knowledge of sociological terminology, and sociological methods in extent of the entrance exam.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Oral exam, Seminar Work
The course is based on lessons and seminars. These seminars suppose detailed knowledge of reading materials. The most of seminars text are in English only. Besides the above specified requiremennts for coursework, the students´presentation in English during the semestr is an integral part of the course.
