Course content
1. Origin of Islam; 2. Muhammad; 3. Orthopedics, pillars of faith; 4. Shari'a; 5. The Qur'an and Sunnah; 6. Directions of Islam, Islamic organizations, mosques and prayer houses; 7. Islam in Europe; 8. Islam in the USA; 9. Islamic States; 10. Perception of Islam and Muslims, approaches to the study of Islam; 11. Islam and Muslims in the Czech Republic; 12. Global Islam, changes of Islam in the 21st century.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to inform about the basics of Islam. The course focuses on the emergence of Islam, Muhammad, his importance and role, pillars of faith, the Shari'a, Qur'an and Sunnah, orthopraxis, the forms and directions of Islam and forms of Islam in contemporary Europe, USA and Islamic countries. The course concludes a description of contemporary Islam in the Czech Republic and the concept of so-called global Islam.
The student should be able to describe the basic elements of Islam as a monotheistic religious system. Student will be able to define basic terminology, explain orthopraxis and interpret basic religious texts. Students will be able to explain differences in approaches to the study of Islam (culturalism, etc.), to understand the position and role of Islam in the contemporary world. He/she will be able to identify and interpret key issues related to Islam in terms of dates and facts.
