Course content
|
This discipline includes introducing and running tutorial, then supported self-study follows. This discipline terminates with obligatory foreign language exam. The curriculum of the discipline includes: 1) Grammatical and lexical language preparation I. - assessing students' language level through entrance test to check the level of language knowledge. 2) Grammatical and lexical language preparation II. - plenary analysis of the entrance tests and self-study recommendations. 3) Presentation of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. 4) Obligatory and recommended literature and information sources for self-study. 5) Receptive and productive competencies for work with an expert text. 6) Strategies of work with an expert text: strategies and techniques of reading an expert text. 7) Techniques of global, selective and detailed reading and their using. 8) Strategies of looking up key information, strategies and techniques of presentation the key competencies from a text. 9) Strategies and techniques of creation an expert terminology lexicon. Characteristic and distinguishing an expert and popular text. 10) Receptive and productive competencies in professional communication. 11) Professional presentation of self, presentation, curriculum vitae (professional, structured), documents of Europass. 12) Key competencies - organization, social etc. competencies demanded in the professional sphere in the target country of a chosen language. Curriculums of individual target foreign languages define their tutors.

Learning outcomes

Students will acquire language competencies on level B2 (of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages - CEFR) in the target foreign language. - Receptive skills focus on reading and understanding of scientific texts of the field of study Social Work. - Productive skills focus on acquiring of speaking proficiency in the target language suitable for communication in everyday situations as well as for professional communication related to the field of study - Social Work.
Students will acquire language competencies on level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) with a special focus on the professional sphere of social work: Student: knows basic grammar of the target language on B2 level (CEFR); masters besides the general vocabulary and adequate speech tools also the expert social work vocabulary with focus on the own professional focus and studies; masters expert vocabulary with regard on the study materials which were learnt in the target language. Complex language competencies on level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) with a special focus on the professional sphere of social work: - reading a text with understanding it (strategies of reading a text); - independent oral utterance (performance, interaction); - independent written presentation; - mastering the expert language of social work will be present in following forms of out coming skills: Student: - can work out a professional curriculum vitae; - can introduce the self in the foreign language in a professional and personal way (can describe the work, studies, professional plans and problems); - in a foreign language can adequately discuss and react to questions connected to the profession, work content, studies and general topics of social work; - can on one´s own find appropriate text in a foreign language, when the content of the text follows the student´s professional focus and fulfils the criteria for a scientific and expert text; - student can find expert information in an expert text written in foreign language; - can interpret the key information from an expert text in the first language and in the foreign language; - can sum up the main content of the expert text and take a stand toward it; - can find key words in the text and enrich the own expert vocabulary. On the basis of the gained abilities student is able to: - use information sources in the target language and in regard of the study programme and professional focus; - in the target language can realize own communication intentions in regard of the expert and professional focus.

This discipline terminates with obligatory foreign language exam. It is possible to take the test anytime during the studies. The exam includes written and oral part. Successful written part of the exam (which has form of a test) is the necessary condition to take the oral part of the exam. During the oral part of the exam student shows following competencies: - knowledge of the expert language of social work (in the presentation, presentation of self, in a discussion with the examiner); - reading a text with understanding (in a form of en expert text elaboration); - independent oral utterance (in a form of presentation, presentation of self, etc.); - independent written presentation (in a form of a professional curriculum vitae, or essay, etc.). Precise form of testing the named competencies is specified by the tutors of the target languages during the first tutorial.
