Course content
Anthropological research on religious phenomena in alliterative societies; Syncretism in alliterative societies; Paradigms of world religions in research. Religion as a transcultural concept; Religion in emic and ethical descriptions; Religion: symbols and interpretations; Religion, evolution and adaptation; Religion in the perspective of cognitive science; Religion and collective identities in global and local dimensions; Problems of conceptualizing local religious traditions: folk religion, shamanism, circumpolar religion; Myth and ritual; Religious specialists; Religion and the media, research on religion on the internet; Magic and Religion; Death in anthropological perspective.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to deepen students' theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the field of researching religious phenomena in a cultural anthropological perspective. The course is based on critical analyses of specific examples of such research. The lectures include a detailed analysis of published research in the field of anthropology of religion, focusing on the theoretical aspects and methodological procedures in these researches. Knowledge and Skills: upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to demonstrate knowledge of current theoretical approaches and methodological procedures in the field of research on religion in cultural anthropology; evaluate the contributions and shortcomings of theoretical and methodological approaches to religious phenomena; apply theoretical approaches and methodological procedures to specific examples in the field of research on religious phenomena; interpret specific religious phenomena in relation to current theoretical approaches in cultural anthropology to the problem of religion.
