Course content

This is a seminar consisting of a presentation of a dissertation project by one/two of the participants and its discussion by the instructors and the other course participants. The seminar will meet four times a semester on pre-set dates. The presenter(s) will focus on the following points: - Introduction of the dissertation topic; - Concise explanation of the research question, the theoretical framework and the chosen research methods to the course participants; - Summary of the work conducted so far, including the preliminary findings, if relevant. - Plan of further work on the dissertation project. The actual content of the presentation differs according to whether the presenter is enrolled in DK1 (ideally, in the 1st semester of his/her PhD study), DK2 (ideally, in the 2nd semester), or DK3 (ideally, in the 4th semester). The presenter will receive from the instructors a write-up of the comments and recommendations raised during the seminar discussion. Each meeting will consist of 4 parts: 1. Presentation of own dissertation project by one of the course participants. 2. Instructors' commentaries and questions on the significance of the research problem, the research question, chosen theoretical framework, methodology and the structure of the work. 3. Questions and commentaries of the other course participants. 4. Evaluation of the state of work on the dissertation project and recommendation of potential amendments to the research plan.

Participation in seminars. Presentation of own dissertation project to the other course participants. Preparation of written documentation to the presentation, corresponding to the dissertation stage: DK2: A detailed outline of the dissertation project plan; bibliography with annotations of the core works. The written document must contain all the formalities of a scholarly work (stylistics, citation style). Expected length: approx. 5-6 pages. The "written document" refers to a formal scholarly write-up. Submission date of the written document: 1 week before the presentation date. We recommend to all the presenters that in the interest of better coordination of the dissertation progress they invite their supervisor to attend their presentations.
