Course content |
1. Formulating the topic of a BA thesis in cooperation with the student. 2. Discussing the suitable approach to the topic with the student. 3. Identifying the capabilities of the student (his/her strong and the weak points) vis-?-vis the approach to the topic. 4. Recommending theoretical and methodological literature relevant to the topic. 5. Planning the BA project. 6. Progress consultations and commenting on parts of the thesis text. 7. Reading the whole BA thesis text and writing the supervisor's evaluation. 8. Presenting and discussing the evaluation at a public defence. The aim of the course is to supervise a final BA thesis in sociology or related discipline at the Department of sociology, andragogy and cultural anthropology of the Faculty of Arts, Palacký University, following an assignment by the department head.
Ability to: - define a topic feasible within the scope of a BA thesis; - supervise a BA student's work toward a BA thesis; - communicate recommendations for a suitable approach to the BA thesis topic in face-to-face consultations and by correspondence; - assess the work toward a successful completion of the BA thesis at regular intervals; - structure and formulate a written evaluation of a BA thesis, including the identification of strong and weak aspects of the work and, if relevant, recommendations for improvement; - present and discuss the evaluation during a public defence. |

Cooperate with the student on the formulation of the BA thesis topic, recommendation of theoretical and methodological literature relevant to the topic, and on the project plan. Consulting the thesis progress face-to-face and/or by correspondence at regular intervals, and commenting on parts of the thesis text. Writing and submitting the evaluation of the assigned BA thesis by the required date and according to any further potential instructions and guidelines. The evaluation must include, but is not limited to, the originality of the work, its content, its formal, linguistic, stylistic and graphic aspects, and work with sources and literature. The content should be evaluated for the definition of the research problem and the formulation of the research question, for the treatment of the theoretical framework, methodology, sample description, quality of the data analysis and conclusions. The evaluation must further include the results of a plagiarism check and the proposed grade. Should the department head issue instructions to that effect, the evaluations may be written according to a predefined structure with a grading scale. Participating in the public defence of the BA thesis. After the defence, the student must inform the course guarantor of the course requirements fulfilment, including the title of the BA thesis and the author's name. Upravit! |
