Reading: Sociologický časopis, 38 (2002), 1-2.An assignment for all course participants: look through the whole issue, read 1 of the 5 articles in the section "Pohledy na českou sociologii" (Perspectives on Czech sociology) and look in greater detail on sections "Kulatý stůl" (Roundtable) and "100 sociologických publikací 1990-2001" (100 sociological publications 1990-2001). Prepare a critical commentary on your readingpaticularly, in relation to your dissertation topic. 2nd meeting: Sociologický časopis Literature to consult: Sociologický časopis, 2003-2013 3rd meeting: Sociální studia Literature to consult: Sociální studia, 2003-2013 4th meeting: Gender, rovné příležitosti, výzkum a Biograf. Literature to consult: Gender, rovné příležitosti, výzkum and Biograf, 2003-2013. Course format: Each meeting will consist of 2 parts: 1. Critical summary of topics, their frequency and approach in the given journal by mean of a presentation by the course participants. After the general summary, it is possible to focus on a selected topic or topics, theoretical approach or methodology (for example, on the topics and approaches relevant to the dissertation topic of the presenter). 2. Detailed discussion of the content of the given journal in relation to the dissertation topics of all course participants: wherein lies the contribution of Czech sociology the topic, what is missing in Czech sociology?

The aim of the course is to familiarize the participants with the thematic, theoretical and methodological directions and development of Czech sociology in the last 10 years through the contents of the main Czech sociological journals: Sociologický časopis; Sociální studia; Gender, rovné příležitosti, výzkum and Biograf. We will also discuss the areas of interest absent in Czech sociology. At the end of the course, the participants will have gained a comprehensive overview of Czech sociological production in journals during the last decade, with a particular emphasis on the topics and approaches relevant to the participants' own dissertation projects. They will also be able to identify the main directions and interest of Czech sociological research, as well as the gaps in research interest.
