Course content |
1. Basic syntactic terms (sentence, statement, syntagma (phrase), paradigm, function, sentence patterns). Basic theoretical approaches to syntax. 2. Simple sentence syntax. Clauses and their types. Sentence modality. 3. Subject and its types. 4. Predication and its types. Verb and noun predicate. 5. Parts of nominal phrase 6. Parts of verbal phrase (direct object, indirect object, prepositional (oblique) object, complement, adverbial complement). 7. Semi-predicate clause. 8. Basic syntactic relations (predication, adordination, coordination, parallel and successive determination; subordination). 9. Sentence and its classification. 10. Subordinate clause and its types. 11. Coordinate sentences and their types. 12. Discursive particles. 13. Functional sentence perspective.

Learning outcomes |
The course is focused on basic syntactic concepts and the simple and compound sentence structures with an emphasis on the peculiarities of sentence structure in Spanish. Seminars are devoted to more difficult phenomena and syntactic analysis.

Written exam with a theoretical and a practical part, active participation in seminars, preparation for the seminar (reading scholarly texts in Spanish, syntactic analysis). |
