Course content
|
The course will cover the following thematic blocks: 1. Phraseology and its historical development 2. Spanish phraseology 3. Theories of phraseology according to the principles of cognitive linguistics 4. How and to what extent the image of the world of speakers of a particular language is reflected in phraseology (comparative analysis of Czech, Spanish, English, and German) 5. The contributions of this discipline to applied fields such as foreign language didactics, translation, etc. 6. Comparative phraseological study of specific semantic areas (such as body parts, animals, plants, feelings of hot or cold, etc.) according to the languages spoken by the students attending the seminar.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course is to introduce students to the problem of idioms according to the principles of both traditional/structuralist and contemporary innovative approaches. Although the emphasis is on phraseology in Spanish, a comparative study of phraseology in some European languages, including Czech, will be made.

Written exam
Written exam, reading of approx. 100 pages of academic texts in Spanish, exercises, participation in class.
