The aim of the course is to approach the cinemas of Latin American countries through the methodological approach of the so-called new film history. From a broader perspective, this method can be seen as an analytical-descriptive overview mapping the relations of film historiography to other social sciences and humanities. It also draws primarily on the political, economic and sociological sciences. In practical terms, this means that the history of Latin American cinema is not conceived as a chronological survey of the development of individual national productions. The teaching is divided into several thematic clusters that trace given phenomena and phenomena from a diachronic or synchronic approach - for example: indigenism, the advent of sound, mutual relations in cinema 1918-2015 between the Czech Republic and selected Latin American countries (distribution, co-productions, cultural exchange in the field of cinema... ), the relationship between film and politics, foreign diasporas - the work of emigrants, mythology, magic and magical realism and their intersection with film, melodrama and other genres, Latin American exploitation film, the phenomenon of new Latin American film and its offshoots, independent filmmaking - guerrilla filmmaking, avant-garde tendencies in Latin American film, Luis Bunuel in Mexico and the work of other important filmmakers in Latin American countries , marginalidad - children, sexual minorities, sports and its influence on genre filmmaking - luchador films, football, national myths - gaucho, charro, sertao and cangaceiro, etc., representation of Latin America in Czechoslovak (Czech) films (in the period 1945/48-1989).
