The objective of this course is to situate the student's existing knowledge - encompassing both general linguistics and the linguistics of their specific Romance language of focus (Spanish, French, Italian, or Portuguese) - within the broader context of Romance linguistics as a whole. Simultaneously, the course aims to significantly deepen the student's expertise regarding the specific language and thematic focus of their own research project. Through a comparative analysis - examining the characteristics of related languages within the same family, the theoretical frameworks applied to their study, and the current state of research on topics parallel to their own - the student refines their understanding of theoretical models and methodological approaches. This process ultimately enhances both the quality of the research project itself and the caliber of its final outcomes.
