Course content
|
1. Periodization of the history of linguistics "Prehistoric" period (Egypt, Mesopotamia, China ...). 2. India, Greece, Rome (ancient grammar). The Middle Ages (Scholastic, 7 liberal arts). 3. Renaissance and 16th-18th century (interest in national languages, rationalism, French encyclopedia). 4. Comparative and historical grammar of the 19th century. Neogrammarian. Dialectology. 5. Predecessors of structuralism (Kazan school). Ferdinand de Saussure and the Geneva School. 6. Prague School. Classic period 1926-1939. The post-war period and the present. 7. Copenhagen School and other European structural movements. 8. American descriptivism and Chomsky's generative and transformational grammar I, II. 9. Introduction to border disciplines. Computational linguistics. 10. Psycholinguistics. Text linguistics. Cognitive Linguistics. 11. Neurolinguistics and sociolinguistics. 12. Semantics, semiology, semiotics. Philosophy of language.

Learning outcomes
|
The goal of the subject is to acquaint students with the development of linguistic thought from antiquity to the present. The emphasis is put on modern linguistics (historical and comparative grammar of the 19th century, and Geneva and Prague structuralism and contemporary borderline disciplines).
Basic knowledge of the history of linguistics.
