Course content
|
This course deals with all the aspect of the Portuguese culture. It offers a brief outline of the evolution of fine arts and architecture, from the megalithic, Ancient and Arabic monuments to typical manifestation of Portuguese art (Manueline style). Together with the evolution of fine arts and architecture the course provides information about Portuguese musical genres, especially about folk music but sacred and classical music as well. The students also have an opportunity to listen to extracts of all musical genres.

Learning outcomes
|
The student focuses on all aspects of the Portuguese culture, is familiar with the important representatives of the fine arts, architecture and music. He/She is able to incorporate the works of these artists into the European context and into the context of the Portuguese history and literature. He/She is able to make a presentation of a selected topic related to the Portuguese culture and to make a coherent speech about it.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Mark, Written exam, Analysis of Creative works (Music, Pictorial,Literary)
The student will make a presentation of the chosen cultural topic during the lesson. He/She is able to to speak fluently about a given topic for at least ten minutes. He/She should pass an end of term test.
