Course content
1. Medieval countryside 2. Phenomena of the city life 3. Characterization of social classes 4. Economic and cultural-religious marginalization of people 5. Position of women, familiar and sexual life, position of children 6. Education system and its grades, position of teachers and their work 7. Structure of universities and their role 8. Development of fine arts 9. Short story and background of selected towns 10. Social conflicts 11. Text tradition 12. Medieval esthetic

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to describe the life, material conditions, mentality and imagination of medieval people and illustrate the material, cultural and social background of period literature. Students will work with sources and period texts (contracts, letters, chronicles, merchants´ memoirs, excerpts from tractates and fiction.

Mark, Oral exam

Participation in lectures and seminars, reading specified literary and scientific texts, preparing for the exam, presentation of paper, passing the exam.
