Course content
1. Demographic and economic crisis of the late 14th century 2. The path from Italian comuni to signorie 3. Structures and life in the court (Florence and Ferrara model) 4. Changes of life style 5. Development of universities and their differentiation 6. Reflexion of humanistic ideals in life of Aristocracy and in Art 7. Decompartmentation of the science branches 8. Position of artists 9. Vision of men in the world 10. Perspektiva, matematizace, okultní vědy 11. Brief history and background of selected cities 12. Text tradition and cognition of the Greek world

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to describe the life, material conditions, mentality and imagination of Renaissance people and to illustrate the material and cultural and social background of period literature. Students will work with sources and period texts (contracts, letters, chronicles, merchants´ memoirs, excerpts from tractates and fiction.
Students will know the life, material conditions, mentality and imagination of Renaissance people and will be able to apprehend these phenomena as a background for artistic production. Assessment methods and criteria
Mark, Oral exam

Participation in lectures and seminars, reading specified literary and scientific texts, preparing for the exam, presentation of paper, passing the exam.
