Course content
|
This is an introductory course to the field of digital humanities. Its aim is to introduce students to the current state of this field, its trends, and potential applications. No prior computer science skills are required, but knowledge of English is highly beneficial, as the best textbooks are in English. Application examples will be selected primarily from Romance-speaking countries. The course is taught in Czech. Main topics: What are the digital humanitiesfields and applications Current trends in the digital humanities Working with data and the path to the Semantic Web The Wiki domain and the SPARQL query language Text corpora (types of corpora and search options) How to build a websitebasics of working with HTML5 and CSS3 Text markupbasics of working with XML and TEI

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course is to introduce students to the current state of the field, its trends, and its potential applications.
Students will improve their ability to think interdisciplinary, to be aware of the differences between data and other types of information, to learn about the development and foundations of the field of digital humanities, to understand the basic features of the construction of the semantic web, the possibilities of searching in it, and the basic features of the construction of website graphics.

Student performance
Attendance at lectures and seminars, independent study of theoretical concepts, and practice of practical skills. Course credit (theoretical and practical skills).
