Course content
This course will cover the following topics: 1. Definition of the genre and its transformation at the end of the 20th century and at the beginning of the 21st century, diversity of the novel forms 2. Themes and topics of the contemporary novels 3. The official "accepted" literature and the popular controverse novel forms classified as "paraliterature" 4. "Écriture féminine", terminilogical aspects, contemporary authors and their works 5. Autobiographical literature as perceived by literary criticism, "Writing about oneself" as a form of literary testimony 6. Current edition policy, publishing houses, writers and literary awards

Learning outcomes
The objective of the course is to make the students familiar with the changes in the contemporary novel and its tendencies and, at the same time, to guide the students, with the help of the relevant critical studies, to independent literary and theoretical analysis of the fundamental texts.
better understanding of the changes in the contemporary French novel in the social and cultural context perfection of the ability to interpret a text as a structure of meaning, to apply different historical and current methods of literary analysis on the particular texts development of the ability to lead a scholarly discussion

1. Regular attendance and active participation in the seminars 2. Preparation for each class, knowledge of the text to be analysed The exam will test the understanding of the development of the contemporary autobiographical novel, different literary critical theories and the ability to apply them on a particular literary work.
