The course covers the followig topics: Position of French in the international organizations French and the Creole languages French on the islands of the Indian Ocean French in the Pacific region Penetration of English to the former French colonies

Learning outcomes
|
The objective of this course is to make the students familiar with the position of French language and with language policy of the selected francophone territories. The emphasis is put mainly on the relationship between French and the other languages used in the given territories and on the question of future use of French outside Europe.
To understand the position of French in the francopone world To become familiar with the francophone policy of the francophone countries To encrich the knowledge about bilingualism and diglosia To develop the ability to analyse the issues related to legal status of languages in multilingual countries

Regular attendance and active participation in the lectures and seminars Preparation for the lessons A presentation The credit test will test the understanding of basic issues of francophony and the status of French language in the world
