Course content

The course will cover the following topics: 1. Periodisation of French literature and the related issues 2. Overview and characteristics of the development of basic literary movements, trends and tendencies in French literature 3. Current literary criticism 4. Rudiments for elaboration of a literary thesis, work with specialised literature 5. Czech and French history of literature, literary publications, our most important Romance philologists 6. Interdisciplinary relations. Literature and philosophy, literature and psychology, literature and history 7. Comparative literature

Learning outcomes
|
The objective of the course is to prepare the students for the individual seminars of French literature of all epochs and to make them familiar with the main literary movements and their approaches from the point of view of the literary science.
1/ understanding of general development of literary movements in French literature in the context of social and cultural changes 2/ adopting the ability to work with literary terminology 3/ first steps in interpretation of text as a meaning structure 4/ development of discussion skills

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Oral exam, Seminar Work
1. regular attendance and active participation in seminars 2. preparation for each class, knowledge of the text to be analysed The exam will test a general understanding of the literary movements across the history of French literature.
