Course content
The stress is put on student's active participation in the form of presentations. Special attention is paid to the current trends in the evolution of French lexicon (tendency to economy, abbreviation, siglaison), English loanwords in French lexicon and their acceptance, detabuization (vulgarisms) and infiltration of the colloquial language into written French. In the field of syntax, the tendency to nominalization is discussed together with the practice of the analysis of sentences and sentence complexes. Some other topics are discussed (transposition, ellipsis). The second semester is dedicated to the individual preparation for the state exam.

Learning outcomes
This seminar prepares the students for the final state exam in French language. It focuses on systemization and deepening of their knowledge in the individual disciplines (phonetics, phonology, morphology, lexicology, syntax, semantics and semiology).
An enhancement and systemisation of the knowledge in the linguistic disciplines from previous studies. An independent approach towards linguistic phenomena, an ability to analyse them and search for their internal relationships.
