Course content
Basic terms connected with the development, structure, production of comics in general. Periodical. Publishing houses. Important artists and writers. Historical context. Francophone comics outside France (Belgium, Switzerland, Canada, Africa). Attention is paid to the influence of comics on other kinds of arts (in particular cinema and TV adaptations). Main streams, types, topics (sci-fi, adventures, detective, fairy-tale, horror, thriller, etc.). Each lesson has an identical structure. A selected representative comics is analysed: Presentation of the selected comics. Authors (artist, scenario). Creation, development, publication of the respective stories. Linguistics analysis (puns, reference to life and institutions). Main protagonists. Specificities. TV and cinema adaptations. Derived products. Translation of a selected passage.

Learning outcomes
The objective of the course is to acquaint the students with basic terms, history and current state of the French comics, representing one of the important elements of the French book market.
Students are familiar with basic terms and works in the field Francophone comics. Students are able to critically analyse a selected comics.

Student performance, Didactic Test, Systematic Observation of Student

The requirements for the course completion include an active participation and the fulfilment of all the assignments set by the teacher.
