Course content
|
Survey of basic phonetic and phonological phenomena (layers of language, history of phonetics and phonology, their branches). The past and the presence of the spoken French language. The French spelling. System of modern French vowels and consonants, acoustic features of the French utterance, various pronunciation styles. Spoken and written form of the language. Phonetic transcription (API). Classification of vowels. Phonetic triangle. The practical part is dedicated to the practical training of French oral vowels. Listening and reproduction exercises.

Learning outcomes
|
The objective of the course is to acquaint the students with essential phonetic and phonological phenomena (layers of language, history of phonetics and phonology, their branches), the diachronic and synchronic approach to the spoken French, its orthography and its vocalic and consonantic systems. The objective of the practical exercises is to attain the orthoepic standard of the French pronunciation.
Mastery of the subject matter within the scope defined in the Course Objectives.

Written exam
