Course content
1. The French boulevard as a historical concept 2. The phenomenon of tabloid theater and its development 3. On the morphology of tabloid theater genres 4. Eugene Scribe, Eugene Labiche: fathers of the French comedic boulevard theater 5. French Belle-Epoque and its icon Georges Feydeau 6. Jean Anouilh as a modern successor to the traditions of boulevard theatre 7. Playwrights of the second half of the twentieth and the beginning of the twenty-first century: Marc Camoletti and Agnes Jaoui 8. Dramatic text, stage play and film adaptation: interdisciplinary level of works

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to acquaint the listeners with the contemporary popular dramatic genre in the context of its most important development phases and with an emphasis on its interdisciplinary overlap.
1/ a deeper understanding of the tabloid theater phenomenon against the background of social development 2/ deepening the ability to work with literary terminology 3/ improving the skill of interpreting a text as a meaning structure, applying various historical and contemporary methods of literary analysis to specific texts 4/ developing the ability of interdisciplinary professional polemics

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral exam, Seminar Work

The condition for completing is regular attendance, active participation in lectures and seminars, knowledge of the analyzed texts and study of relevant professional literature. The exam examines orientation in the literary history of the given time period and in literary theory.
