Course content
|
The course programme: 1) The history of Martinique from the earliest times up to the present. 2) The francophone culture of Martinique and its major representatives. 3) The francophone culture of the island of Saint Lucia and its major representatives. 4) The history of French Guyana from the earliest times up to the present. 5) The francophone culture of French Guyana and its major representatives. 6) The history of Canada from the earliest times up to the present. 7) The francophone culture of Canada and its major representatives. 8) The history of Morocco and the major representatives of the francophone culture in Morocco. 9) The history of Senegal and the major representatives of the francophone culture in Senegal. 10) The francophone culture on the islands in the Indian Ocenan and the Pacific.

Learning outcomes
|
The objective of this course is to make the students familiar with the history and culture of the European francophone countries. The emphasis is put mainly on the most recent history and on the status of the francophone culture in multilingual countries, where it must co-exist with other language cultures.
The students will learn the knowledge and skills in the following scope and they will be able to prove them upon completion of the course in the exam. The students are able to: explain the history of the European francophone countries describe the culture of the francophone countries work with texts from the individual francophone countries

Written exam
1. Regular attendance and active participation in the lectures and seminars 2. Preparation for the classes 3. A presentation The credit test will test the understanding of the basic issues from the history and culture of the non-European francophone countries.
