Course content
This course will cover the following topics: 1. The place of narrative in literature, novel as a dominant prosaic genre 2. Fiction 3. Literary characters 4. Time and space in narrative 5. Artistic description 6. Narration, the issue of narrative perspective 7. Stylistic and lexical analysis of narrative 8. Formal and aesthetic particularities of narrative in the different stages

Learning outcomes
The objective of this course is to make the students familiar with the main approaches to literary analysis of a narrative text. The seminars are focused on a detailed analysis of the model works from different stages of development of French literature.
1/ to know the main approaches to literary criticism and to be able to apply them on a particular text 2/ to perfection the ability to work with literary terminology 3/ to develop the ability to participate in a scholarly discussion

Oral exam, Essay

1. regular attendance and active participation in the seminars 2. preparation for each class, knowledge of the text to be analysed The exam will test the understanding of the individual literary critical theories and the ability to apply them on a particular literary work.
